Calling God a him is really a moot point as Jesus was male and God is really genderless.
Also, if worship was empty and vain, people wouldn't do it. If people do it besides, it means that they are getting something out of it anyway which is then a cheap form of entertainment of which there's no point criticizing.

The Holy Spirit himself gives everyone their gifts to expand Gods kingdom, whether it be teaching or evangelism or the talent of music to praise him, It is all through the will of God. I have seen many people give themselves to Christ during worship services. God created us to worship him. Even in the bible it says the Angels sang to God, "Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty."
